Stefano Scarampella is considered to be one of the premier violin makers of the 20th century. His instruments have been compared to J.B. Guadagnini in tonal quality yet, they are a fraction of the cost. Maestro's Music is now representing a Scaramella Quartet in mint condition with premium certification papers. More pictures are available upon request.

No Longer Available
Stefano Scarampella learned to make violins from his elder brother, but apparently opened a modest workshop in Brescia only towards 1880-81. A few years later, took work on the tram line being built to Mantua, and by 1886 he moved there. A far more prolific maker than his brother, his violins and cellos were frequently inspired creations that hark back to an earlier age, as the large range of his instruments illustrated in this book attest. Using models of Guarneri del Gesù and Balestrieri as the basis of a truly personal style, Scarampella attracted a devoted local following which continues to grow today. The great many vignettes of Stefano’s colorful personality are presented in a refreshing way, without seeming either pedantic or perfunctory. He collected embalmed birds, enjoyed fishing and once he even built a violin in the white for an American client.

The following cello bows are currently available:  Simon;  Maire; Malcolm Tayler.
The following violin bows are available: Torte; James Tubbs (goldmounted tortoiseshell)

The following list of violins are all labeled Italian instruments. They all have certification papers. Most of these instruments are from private collections and can be seen by appointment only.

MORE VIOLINS
J.B. Guadagnini - Crafted in 1777, this instrument has premium certification papers.
This "Turin Guad" is a soloist instrument at the highest
                          level. It's been superbly maintained.

1750 Nicolo Gagliano - This maker is the son of Alessandro. You've all heard of the story about the apprentice that outperforms the sorcerer. Well, this time the son surpasses the father. Some of Nicolo's violins have even been mistaken for Strads.

1918 Stefano Scarampella - Scarampella instruments have been among the most sought-after and highest appreciating instruments in the last 20 years. They are also among the most often copied. He had a certain genius quality to his work, a very free, unhampered and rugged style. A well-played example like this one (pictured and described above) must played and heard to be appreciated.
